Hi hi, it’s Ebe!

You ever feel like you’ve been through WWI and WWII? Stronger and more resilient, yes. Wiser and smarter, sure. But at what cost? Is it possible to learn valuable life lessons without trekking through hell and back? If anyone has an answer, please let me know. ISO: the solution to perpetual human suffering. Serious inquiries only! As you’re enjoying the last remnants of summer, why don’tcha enjoy reading about the controversial opinion about Uptown Minneapolis that has locals fuming, and the strangely dystopic but also somehow incredibly entertaining 2024 DNC?

Uptown Uproar: Star Tribune Sparks Outrage with ‘Boring’ Minneapolis Hot Take

Controversial opinion alert! Get yer hot tea here!

A few days ago, the Star Tribune (now rebranded to the Minnesota Star Tribune), dropped a scalding article about how boring Uptown Minneapolis was – and the locals are NOT happy.

The article recounts the author’s and their friends’ evening perusing through the construction-filled streets of Uptown, looking for fun, food, and good eats. The piece’s introduction begins with the claim that many people refer to Uptown as a “languishing, crime-ridden wasteland” and that parking is really difficult. Funnily enough, they also write that they had no problem finding nearby parking when they grabbed some grub at Barbette. The main themes of the piece, however, were about too much construction and businesses closing too early.

The Star Tribune’s Tik Tok account also dropped a video version of the review in which the comments were full of people calling this a terrible take. One user wrote:

“i live here and this comes off as very condescending. uptown isn’t a war zone – there are theatres, book stores, art galleries, speakeasies. they need more support than ever and you’re not helping”

Other users wrote:

“Ah, the Star Tribune continuing to disparage its own city for clicks from out-staters”

“Thank you for letting me know I need to cancel my subscription to Star Tribune. Journalism shouldn’t harm communities that have struggled, and should remain unbiased.”

“Lived in uptown for years. Sure, it’s going through a rough patch but there’s tons of fun stuff to do here! Gotta say, this is kind of a bad take.”

“This is super distasteful. The intentional burned building in the frame?? This isn’t very BRAT or member of the community in any way”

What do you think about this take that Uptown is a “languishing, crime-ridden wasteland”?

2024 DNC: Unity, Leadership, and Viral Moments Define the Convention

So, here’s the scoop on the 2024 Democratic National Convention, which ran from August 19-22 in Chicago. The vibe was all about unity and looking ahead, with Kamala Harris getting the official nod for president. But let’s be real—the Obamas totally stole the show. Barack’s speech? It was packed with sharp jabs at Trump, and his crowd size joke (complete with a cheeky hand gesture) blew up online. People couldn’t stop talking about how he effortlessly poked fun at Trump, proving he’s still got his wit and sense of humor.

Then there was Michelle, who brought such a unique energy only in the way she can. Her speech hit hard on themes like hope and unity, and you better believe social media was buzzing with love for her authentic and emotional delivery. She’s got this way of connecting that just resonates, and folks were all over it.

Oh, and let’s not forget the live performances. John Legend, Beyoncé, and others turned the convention into a full-on concert. Their sets were meant to add a whole layer of energy to the convention, but personally, when I saw Lil’ John walk down those stadium steps, I couldn’t help but feel this was an SNL sketch. It’s weird to have musical celebrities at political events like these as if it was the Super Bowl, right? Anyone?

Anyhow, the 2024 DNC was an absolute a cultural moment, blending speeches, music, and a serious dose of inspiration as we head into the election.

Stay informed, stay connected.

See you next week!
