A pox on the early hour, but good dawning to thee nonetheless! Isabella speaks!
With revelry and merriment, I did meet with a band of cherished comrades and we discoursed on popular films inspired by Shakespearean plays. Did you know the rom-com ‘Anyone But You’ starring Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell is inspired by Shakespeare’s ‘Much Ado About Nothing’? In idle contemplation, films of old did occupy our minds… Such as ‘The Lion King’ (1994) and ‘Hamlet’, ‘West Side Story’ (1961) and ‘Romeo and Juliet’, ‘10 Things I Hate About You’ (1999) and ‘The Taming of the Shrew’, or ‘She’s the Man’ (2006) and ‘Twelfth Night’. Any favorites you can think of?

Last Thursday, we chanelled our inner artists with playlist-making and candle-crafting session alongside Kobi Co. This Black-ownerd business, recently featured by ESPN, creates beautiful soy candles that set a calming vibe. We loved collaborating with Kobi and Tasha to craft our own fragrant masterpieces! Shout out to Kobi Co. for providing a wonderful soothing and sensory-filled experience.

W Lake St. Transforms: Beyond the Bucket of Chicken
Now, for some lighter local news. Remember the White Castle that closed on W Lake St.? Guess what’s taking its place? Another fried chicken joint – Kentucky Fried Chicken! While some might question the need for another option with Popeyes nearby, the neighborhood’s bigger win lies in the development plans. The Minneapolis City Council approved the Nicollet Ave Kmart redesign project that includes a reconnected Nicollet Ave with pedestrian and bike paths, improved safety features, and even park space! Construction kicks off this year – huzzah for a more walkable and vibrant neighborhood!
Working Virtually: Roblox & IKEA Team Up

Moving on to the world of gaming, Roblox is making headlines. Facing child labor allegations due to user-generated content, they’re collaborating with IKEA! This unique partnership offers £13.15 (est. $16.78 USD) per hour to 10 lucky applicants to work in a virtual IKEA store within the game. While Roblox emphasizes most creators are adults, the collaboration raises questions about the platform’s responsibility. This opportunity will only be available to those 18+ and in the UK or Republic of Ireland.
Whittier Shooting

On a more somber note, our hearts go out to the victims and families affected by the recent shooting in the Whittier neighborhood. Minneapolis police officer Jamal Mitchell, a suspected shooter and a civilian are dead after a shooting, while several others are injured, MPR News reported. As our team was having dinner, we were shocked and heartbroken to hear this news. Stories like this certainly don’t change the Murderapolis debate. We stand with our community during this difficult time. The Sahan Journal offers a touching tribute to Officer Mitchell, highlighting his heroism (read here).
Mexico Makes History: A Climate Scientist Takes the Helm

Finally, let’s celebrate a historic moment in Mexico! Claudia Sheinbaum, a climate scientist and former mayor of Mexico City, is the first woman elected president. She has ambitious plans to tackle climate change and immigration reform. While many are hopeful about her policies, social media reflects the complex political landscape of Latin America. The New York Times provides a helpful breakdown of her potential impact.
